Since I have no idea of how to go about fixing the issue under Windows 8.1, and its clear that its an OS issue rather than a driver issue, I'm doing another factory restore back to Windows 8. This did not fix the issue, but to be fair it was intented for fixing issues when gaming. I did some searching on Google for problems relating to Windows 8.1, and found an issue with laggy mouse movement when gaming which could be fixed by installing a KB from Microsoft. However, I downloaded and installed the same version of the driver I had made a backup of, and doing so made no difference to the touchpad operation. I made a backup of the touchpad driver before upgrading, but was unable to restore the old driver under Windows 8.1. The pointer movement is far from perfect under Windows 8, but is noticably worse under Windows 8.1. As far as I can recall, the touchpad on the other model worked fine.Īfter upgrading to Windows 8.1 again I discovered that the Windows 8.1 is the problem. This is only the second Samsung laptop I've used. If the issues can't be fixed, and if the customer want to use the touchpad and not a mouse, I'll have to no option but to sell this laptop and purchase an alternative one. While, in this case the laptop is for someone else, with my own laptops an excellent touchpad is a must, as I use the touchpad instead of an external mouse at least 99.9% of the time, and that's not going to change anytime soon. An obvious solution is to use an external mouse, but I do want to sort out the touchpad issue (if it possible to do so). I'm certain it is not a defective touchpad, as I've used several laptops with similar issues in the past two years.
Also, there are no options in either the Windows or Synaptics mouse properties which help. It makes no difference if the laptop is plugged in or running on battery power. Also, I've installed the updated driver from Windows Update (which suprisingly is a very recent driver, and is newer than the driver at the Synaptics website, or any other Synaptics driver I've found).

I've installed several different versions of drivers with the driver update software DriveTheLife. I have used the updated driver installed by the included SW Update software from Samsung and the driver Windows installs after uninstalling the existing driver from Device Manager. I've tried a number different versions of the Synaptics touchpad drivers. I've spent some time already trying to improve the situation with no luck. When I use the touchpad, movement of the pointer is very slightly jerky. While the laptop is only two years old and in basically new condition, I am having a serious issue with the touchpad. I've just purchased a second hand Samsung NP350E5C-A01AU laptop, which I've just upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8.
